A new way to approach support for your college student

Campus Colleagues are on campus student-mentors; peers who know the campus, the facilities, the social milieu and supports, and who are uniquely equipped to scaffold a smooth adjustment to college life academically, socially, and emotionally. Not on a campus? Learn about our Community Colleagues.

Many colleges do an excellent job of helping new students transition to campus life. They offer academic supports, counseling centers, and freshman orientation events and resources.

However, some students may benefit from just a little more. They may be shy, anxious, socially insecure, or feel and experience many other things that make transition more of a challenge.  It is for these students that Campus Colleagues exists. Campus Colleagues are on campus student-mentors; peers who know the campus, the facilities, the social milieu and supports, and who are uniquely equipped to scaffold a smooth adjustment to college life academically, socially, and emotionally.

Campus Colleagues are hired for a number of hours per week to be an on-campus contact person for your student. They might meet for a meal or two, attend social events together, tour your student around campus, engage in a workout, or just spend time chatting on the quad.

Colleagues are not professionals or ‘adults.’ They are students in pursuit of a graduate degree in an appropriate field aligned with the objectives of this program and to assume this role; as such, they are approachable for your young adult and their shepherding seems organic to other students.
